Gil talks about his decision to enlist in the Air Force rather than be drafted into the Army in 1967, and experiences as a C-130 pilot, including combat missions in Vietnam in 1972. Gil graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and worked as a news reporter. He had his flight training in Arizona before leaving for a 15-month assignment in Southeast Asia. Upon returning he would go on to manage the news department at WSAW-TV until his retirement in 2010. Gil became a Certified Flight Instructor in 2001 and is currently an active flight instructor at the Wausau Downtown Airport. This History Speaks program is presented live at 2pm at the Woodson History Center (410 McIndoe Street, Wausau), in conjunction with the Marathon County Public Library and sponsored by Janke Bookstore. The presentation will be recorded and available digitally on Facebook and YouTube within a few days of the live program (along with many of our past programs).
